X.com Announces Insane 97% Subscriptions Cut For Creators, The Story Behind The 3 Indie Devs Who Made Over $60 Million, and Supabase Launch Week Updates

In this CodeLetter, we discuss X.com’s new insane subscription cut for creators, the potential of indie game developers in 2023, and upcoming full-stack app development platforms.

BattleBit Remastered: The Story of 3 Indie Developers Shaking Up The Indie Game World

BattleBit Remastered, a FPS shooter game created by 3 small indie developers, recently passed 3 million copies sold, garnering over $60 million in revenue. This follows the games initial success after lunch in June 2023, selling over 1.8 million copies in the first two weeks alone.

The project has shaken up the indie scene showing smaller developers that creative spins on pre-existing ideas can lead to massive growth. Not only this, but this story shows that the indie scene is long from dead when compared to larger triple A studios.

The developers, SgtOkiDoki, The Liquid Horse, and Vilaskis, plan to invest a majority of the games revenue back into the game itself through server upkeep, scaling and overall player experience.

X.Com Announces New Subscription 97% Cut Model For Content Creators

X.com, formerly Twitter, recently announced their new subscription model for content creators on the platform. X plans to split the revenue cut 97-to-3, in favor of their creators.

This comes with the new Subscription program X plans to implement that allows creators to lock certain perks for non-paying viewers. Comparatively, Youtube creators will only receive 55% of ad revenue generated through their content.

In order to join the plan, users have to meet certain requirements such as a having a minimum of 500 followers and 15 million organic impressions, as well as being 18 years of age. The initial response from the community has been resoundingly positive, with Musk stating the program had far exceeded their initial expectations after release.

One question that has been raised is how do creators know how their content is actually worth. One user on the platform has created a Chrome extension that allows users to find a rough estimate of what an individual tweet could be worth. Tracking potential monetization value will be extremely valuable going forward on the platform.

Similar levels of creator revenue have yet to be seen and has the potential to change how competitors compensate their users.
